The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays! Cookout at camp and fireworks is a combination I have loved since childhood. Now that I’ve got kids of my own, it’s only gotten more exciting. One of my favorite things to do leading up to the holiday is to find an easy dessert they can help me make, and oh boy did I hit the jackpot with this one!
Do you need a quick, easy, crowd-pleasing treat that you can whip up for the festivities? I definitely was and these cookies were IT. I mean the ‘IT’ of the party! Delicious and pretty, they took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish (and that was including the time it took me to photograph them!)
Oh my goodness I can’t even write this without my mouthwatering – I mean, just look at those cookies! No, they’re not healthy at all… and that’s why we love them!
Not only a big hit for the kiddos, when I made these over Memorial Day weekend the adults loved them, too! They were gone in minutes. Kind of like the potato chip effect: you can’t. just. eat. one.
Ok, so enough of the pretty pictures for now… here’s how you make them.
Just 3 ingredients that you can pick up at any grocery store or order Amazon through the links provided to get them delivered straight to your door!
First, you melt your chocolate. Smooth, creamy goodness. I used vanilla flavored baking chips, but you could use almond bark, white chocolate, dark or milk chocolate, or a red white or blue colored vanilla melting chocolate.
Then, you dip the bottom 1/4 of your cookies into the chocolate and lay it on wax or parchment paper, or a cookie sheet – any nonstick surface for the chocolate to harden on.
Then, right away before the chocolate hardens, you throw on the sprinkles of your choice. That’s it! So straight forward and simple, and kid-friendly, too! Perfect for a fun (not super messy) activity, and the kiddos always love to show off their culinary creations. (Just be careful with the kids and the chocolate, it will be hot!)
Lastly, you wait until the chocolate is fully hardened and cooled before storing them in an airtight container. Avoid direct sunlight so the chocolate won’t melt and store in a cool place. The cookies start getting chewy and less crispy after 2-3 days, but they probably won’t last that long anyway!
I’m sorry, I know we should end this post now, but I just have so. many. pictures. and I love them all!
Last one, I promise. Look at those crispy wafers!!
So there it is! Hope you all have a wonderful 4th and have some safe fun with your tribe.
